Named after President James Madison, Madison County, MS is bordered by Rankin County to the south and Hinds County to the southwest.
Prior to being formed out of Yazoo and Hinds Counties in 1828, Madison County, MS attracted many settlers from Virginia and the Carolinas who were looking for rich farm lands with fertile soil.
Despite being one of the fastest growing counties in the state, Madison County, MS has managed to maintain a small community feel.

Numerous cities and towns are located in Madison County, MS, including a small portion of the capital city of Jackson. Other cities located within the county include Canton, Madison and Ridgeland. Madison County, MS is also part of the Natchez Trace Parkway.
Designated as an All-American Road and maintained by the National Park Service, the parkway pays tribute to the Old Natchez Trace. An important part of American history, the 440-mile trace was used by Native Americans for centuries before it was used by American and European emigrants, traders and explorers during the 18th and 19th centuries. Today, the 444-mile parkway spans from Natchez, MS to Nashville, TN and features many points of historical interest. While access to the parkway is limited to non-commercial traffic and has a speed limit of 50 miles per hour, it does feature more than 50 access points through three different states.

The district features three high schools, eight middle schools and ten elementary schools.
