Named after General Thomas Hinds, who was a hero in the Battle of New Orleans, Hinds County, MS is located to the west of Rankin County and to the east of Warren County.
Thanks to its location, numerous major highways and interstates pass through the county, which is also home to a portion of the Natchez Trace Parkway.
As home to part of the Natchez Trace Parkway, Hinds County plays an important role in the preservation of history.
Designated as an All-American Road and maintained by the National Park Service, the parkway extends a total of 444 miles from Mississippi to Tennessee and commemorates the old Natchez Trace. The trace, which was used by Native Americans for centuries, was used by European and American traders, emigrants and explorers during the 18th and 19th centuries. With more than 50 access points throughout three states, the parkway is limited to non-commercial traffic and has a speed limit of just 50 miles per hour.
A number of towns and cities are located in Hinds County, MS, including the capital city of Jackson.
